Because the Crows-Hematite central office, located on the state line of Virginia and West Virginia, received its dial tone from a central office in West Virginia, operations in Alleghany County were split from the former C&P Telephone Company of Virginia and transferred to Frontier. ==Unique== Frontier Communications of Virginia is one of several telephone companies owned by independents that were created from the split of former Bell System operations. Northern New England Telephone Operations and Telephone Operating Company of Vermont are both companies owned by FairPoint that Verizon split from Verizon New England in 2008.
